Enjoy a private tour of one of Holland’s iconic historical monuments (and our home!), the Ambachtsmolen. Built in 1632, this watermill played an important role in North Holland’s history and today stands as a symbol of inspiring Dutch ingenuity.
In the 19th century, there were more than 9,000 windmills in the Netherlands. Now there are only 1,200 left standing. Out of those, only 150 are lived in as homes.
This is a special invitation to tour our private Mill, lovingly restored with care by Han, the molenaar (miller) over 20 years ago. The four story structure is completely original and the mechanics are still working to turn the giant blades on a windy day.
Our tours are limited to small groups of no more than twelve to offer the most personalized experience possible. You will get to see how people traditionally lived in the mill and how we live today. You can then tour our little museum, on the 3rd floor, to see a collection of traditional tools and scenes giving a glimpse into life as it used to be.
On the top floor, you will see the giant wheel and the inner mechanics of the Mill which Han shares with a sense of passion and enthusiasm that is infectious and memorable!
We hope you join us soon for a tour you will never forget!
